From Eden To Calvary

A Bible Study in the Doctrine of the Atonement

Saturday, November 29, 2008 - - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

About the presenter:

Brother Richard Pursell has recently authored The Untold Story, a book that provides an historical overview of certain of the differences in understanding the Scriptures on the atonement that have arisen among brethren in North America over the past one hundred twenty years. As Brother Pursell expressed it in the preface, "the primary purpose of this book is to promote healing among Christadelphians through diagnosis, introspection, knowledge of these differences, and how they developed." In these three study classes on the theme From Eden to Calvary, Brother Pursell will be using our inspired source book, the Bible, to bring forward an understanding of Bible teaching on the doctrine of the atonement. The study classes will not be considering the history of differences in understanding but setting forward the teaching of the Scriptures. Brother Pursell's study of the history and his articulation of the differences have equipped him with a unique perspective to open the Scriptures for us on these important principles of truth and righteousness.

Why is this topic important:

The doctrine of the atonement is the foundation of the gospel and all that is revealed in the Scriptures. In the early chapters of Genesis, the Author of the Bible reveals what the problem is that the atonement was needed to solve. Each of us has a responsibility to understand the significance of Genesis 2 and 3 so that we are have a good understanding of God's plan, are equipped to teach others also, and are able to uphold the truth of the Scriptures. The atonement is a doctrine that can edify and elevate our thinking to the most sublime concepts of all time - the concepts of God's love and grace in the work of His Son.
